Will Artificial Intelligence Remove the Human Experience of “Learning by Doing”?

The evolution of full Artificial Intelligence could lead to the end of the human race. It could re-design itself at an ever increasing rate and would do well on its own. Humans limited by slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete, and would be superseded. When Stephen Hawking told BBC this on 25th July 2017, he was extremely positive about the pivotal role Artificial Intelligence (AI) would play in the days to come.

 
Well, an unbiased outlook suggests that AI is a double-edged sword as it is both a boon and a curse to human intelligence. If the quest for strong artificial intelligence succeeds and an AI system becomes better than humans at all cognitive tasks then it will become difficult to imagine the consequences if some day artificial intelligent machines becomes more cognitively capable than humans. Designing smarter AI systems is itself a cognitive task as artificial intelligence is a system that can potentially undergo recursive self-improvement, triggering an intelligent explosion leaving human intellect far behind as AI possesses an ability to stimulate human behavior and its cognitive process. By inventing in revolutionary new technologies, such super intelligence may possibly help to eradicate war, incurable diseases, and poverty, and so the creation of strong AI systems may prove to be the biggest event in human history.

Artificial Intelligence has brought in a 360-degree change to the way we look at learning and invention. The method of learning by doing is considered as a process of producing the outputs more methodical and proficient by a firm, industry or economy by acquiring, understanding and adopting technology. There is a need to develop skilled organizations which need people of great intelligence and leadership qualities. This method of learning by doing is very relevant and practical and not just passive or theoretical.

Adopting learning by doing augments production efficiency over task as this approach is based on experience which allows learners to apprehend something with minimal guidance. It is assumed that learners learn best by being involved in the learning process as it helps in acquisition of knowledge, skills through direct experience of carrying out a task. Organizations that follow learning by doing culture can evolve with better decision making, problem solving and peer learning experience. In next few decades the notion of work whether it is carried out by a human or by a virtual being will hinge on predictability or acceptance of this new expertise of artificial intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence in terms of robots with human-like characteristics will make life easier for employees in various sectors. It is the field where human brain and machine talks with each other. AI has the potential to swiftly and accurately complete multiple mundane tasks through intricate automation thereby increasing the productivity and freeing up human time for creative and innovative tasks.

Albeit, AI reduces plenty of grunt work such as scanning and filing contracts for new hires, trainees and apprentices; but this would eliminate the valuable real experience of learning from scratch. Machine learning being very precise and accurate will reduce human errors substantially which would nullify the experiential learning of humans; but on the positive end humans would now be able to prioritize their focus more on visionary aspects of work.

The world of digitization and AI will help humans to work hand-in-hand with new methods where AI will push the managers to cross-question and rethink. AI’s tendency to look at the bigger picture by weighing all the pros and cons of assigned task will help germinate the art of efficacious decision making quicker than a human being. But, AI cannot take over the critical and strategic intellection of humans – hence when both human and AI machines work together, it lets human perform the critical decision making task faster and transcend. In other words, when it comes to perform highly complicated tasks, AI machines fail to offer flexibility and creativity to find a solution and that is where the power of human intelligence is required.

Artificial Intelligence is expected to make life more convenient for humankind in the years to come and will force humans to evolve; but it will never be possible for AI machines to completely replace the human intelligence. A blend of human and artificial intelligence will help the organizations to come up with more innovative and ameliorate ideas contributing to major strategic shifts resulting into business automated process, increased efficiency and labor productivity.

Mankind the creator of the machine will never be obsolete but will always direct, manage, and operate the intelligent machines. At the same time AI machines will make humans’ life easy. Hence as both have their own significance and in dispensability, the two will complement each other. If both will play their exclusive roles not by replacing but by complimenting each other, we will soon experience a world with technological transformation.
